The "people can't drive" example really rings true; I stopped riding motorcycles after the thought of "If I wasn't paying extra attention right then, that idiot could have killed me". I wasn't imagining the danger, it was certainly there, but the thought itself came before any confirmations via experience; If I never had the thought that "Other people suck at driving, and their mistakes will kill me" I wouldn't have built up that logical reason to stop riding.
